Epic
She walks in circles wont get it right,
he acts the fool.
never-ending pain in sight,
and no golden rules.
All she wants was a piece of his mind.
A little bit of love and lust is all she needs.
so how do you tell a good girl,
she's not good for you,
ways away from her minds reach.
Call on me my love,
if you gotta live for something,
Im on my knees oh lord,
if shes gotta believe in something.
Paints his pictures with ocean light,
and he falls asleep
Just to find a sunset spy crawling on his beach
Walks in circles wont get it right,
so he walks her home
Heaven Can Wait
Whenever something just aint right, move along.
Hop this magic carpet ride, and pay the toll.
Cant be fake or waist your time. They will recall,
when humble left its sacred place, in your heart.
All your faith in god and love, just what you believe.
but in the end you'll know the truth.
It falls on you now x2
Change your ways or change your name, they will recall
Cause humble left left its sacred place in your heart.
Cause its a long way down to fall, heaven will wait for you.
No matter how big you think you are,
heaven will wait for, heaven can wait for
All your life you take your prize and make it home.
Cause on this magic carpet ride, we search for more.
But like these stars last through the night, were shining on.
Friends and foes we feel their strife, like its our own yeah.
Not the Right Catch
Hippy-Rock, Jam-Rock, hid your car around the block
that way so nobody could see.
Gettin in, slippin in, daisy finger, lets begin
Do you want to do this with me?
Ive gotta say this baby
I gotta get this off my chest
I aint gonna settle baby
yeah you sure are fun girl,
But your not the right catch
not the right catch
Hippy-Rock, Jam-Rock, hid your car around the block
that way so nobody could see.
Wanna taste, kiss your face, touch you in a sacred place
Do you want to do this with me?
Might be crazy, just a faze that were in.
But its oh so tasty wanna do it again
cause
Crucial Tactics
Just a real big heart, but can I trust myself?
I didn't catch her name, but she was hot as hell.
And its a real nice party, yeah were all sauced up.
I'd give a million dollars, for one night with her.
Could it be my daydreaming mind?
Where timing is nothing, it wouldn't be rushing if,
if I had her by my side, alone, tonight,
by my side.
She wears the personal armor.
She doesn't like material things.
If she rejects my love, I'd have to stop and think.
Im in a disposition, cause she's hard to get.
Gotta move in easy, yeah to break her sweat.
I'm a hopeless romantic,
thinking there's a chance to step inside,
yeah and blow her mind.
But all these crucial tactics,
that I've been using to find her mattress,
now has made me such an ass, and now I'm crying.
I dry my eyes.
Undersexisized
Now we could get down to the itty-bitty details
but, lets not be rude.
Don't ask me for any favors girlfriend,
cause I don't owe you.
Made me feel materialized, and undersexisized.
You realized that your just not cool.
I had to fornicate to a porno tape,
and that was great, cause it wasn't you.
It seems there's nothing we can do,
but you won't catch me crying girl, or actin a fool yeah
So don't waste my time, won't tame your lust.
You don't sing my songs, you don't blow me up.
wont take your call, just shrug you off.
Stay away from me.
Now I don't got time for your feelings girlfriend,
or all these tears.
Perhaps this relationship could get a little bit better,
maybe a lot better, after a couple beers yeah.
Made me feel materialized, and undersexisized.
Its time to date and get physical.
Had to throw away all your photos babe,
and that was cake, because their digital.
It seems there's nothing we can say,
so quick tuck your tail girl and run away
Enemy Lines
Trouble with America, its about to boil.
Lost the roots from where we came.
What a crazy show.
All these channels, all this confrontation.
One-side realities, opinions and religion.
Give me hope that mankind can beat the system,
cause we don't need no more lying and oppression.
Take yourself to enemy lines,
gonna set guns down, apologize,
gonna make amends and love each other.
If you can't do that, what a waste of life.
Gonna pack my bags and jump the line.
Gonna leave this town, maybe run forever.
Trouble in America, when its about the oil.
Made a Bush a president, think we drank it all yeah.
All these families with sons now lost forever.
Death or money, power made through propaganda.
Give me hope that mankind can find the answers,
cause we don't need no more lying and oppression.
So take yourself to enemy lines,
gonna set guns down, apologize,
gonna make amends and love each other.
Danger Danger, watch your back,
yeah Danger Danger, the world reacts.
Gonna watch your youth cause a revolution.
Cougarville
Your doing good girl, Rockin my world,
thats right, and thats life.
Come on over and I can rub your shoulders,
tonight, ooh that feels so nice.
Im an open cougar fool,
and I hope your hungry too.
Im an open cougar fool, thats right,
wanna taste your body gonna feast tonight.
Your doing good girl, Rockin my world,
but thats right, and thats life.
Come on over, and I'll massage your shoulders,
tonight, ooh that feels so nice.
Chump
Merry Christmas spirit is a practical thing.
Said your O.C.D for shoes is not.
You want all of my money and these diamond rings,
but baby, thats all you've got.
and you wont stop thinking about yourself for a second,
and all your doings pissing me off.
You need to change your focus on reality baby,
and change your ways.
So I'm drinking fast, said I think I lost my mind.
If you think it's my fault baby, said your probably right,
cause I'm a chump.
Loved you in the morning in your victoria slip,
then you go and say something smart.
But since were hot and heavy baby, kissing already,
I'll take out my aggression on top.
The lovely hot heavy turns to sticky and sweaty,
and the frown upon her face upside-down.
I admit it my friend, I forgave her again.
Man, I'm such a chump.
My Way
Well bare skin breathes. Breathe in deeply yeah.
(Its your turn, to breathe in deeply)
And (Said) your open mind, it was hard to come by.
And now we'll watch and grow,
and where we stop, well nobody knows.
But I'm yours to love.
And now we'll watch and see,
if from the heart is where we bleed.
There's one life, to make it right,
yes I will have my way, yes I will have my way.
To Life
So good so far, at least for me.
I found a way to change the world,
for the time being.
Tired of waiting on the world,
and you want to turn this stone,
cause I can't sit and twist my thumbs
some more
Cause we've been blessed,
like all the rest,
and tonight I won't lay here anymore.
Said we'll scream and shout,
yeah, let it all out.
Here's to life tonight.
So good so far, at least for me.
You found a way to blame the world,
for the time being.
Your tired of waiting on the world,
and you want to turn your stone,
cause you cant sit and twist your thumbs
some more
Turn The Light On
Oh so strong, sang this song,
just to widen my horizon.
Turned this page to a spotlit stage.
Undivided, soul-inspired.
The messenger came but nobody met for tea.
The king and the queen yes,
no one had heard or seen.
Onward strong, searched so long,
for reactions, to distractions.
Wiped this slate, to concentrate
on what matters, left in tatters.
We'll darkness came,
and we left this place,
to destruction, and consumption.
Then the new world came,
and we marked this day,
just to brighten our horizon.
Reactions innate, we're all falling down,
just facing myself again.
Yeah subject to change, we're all falling down,
just facing myself (ourselves) again.
Turn the light on, turn the light on.
Anything's better then all this. (x2)
With something to say, we all change the world.
Reality is what you made.
All my life, open wide to the old ways,
look to new days. But all in time, open wide,
screw the old ways, so we'll take it to new days.
Turn the light on, turn the light on.
We made this place and we made this fate.
Turn the light on, Turn the light on.
We made this place and we made this fate.

Air Time in East Africa

Just this last month I was contacted by one Ivan Mubiru from Kampala Uganda. He was more unfortunate than myself and simply stated that he was a big fan of my music and that it would be wonderful if I could send him some clothes. I responded with an email asking for his address, and that he send a picture of himself and his family wearing the "Lucas Cates" t-shirts I sent him. He was very excited in his next response where he not only sent me a picture of his family, but requested that I also send him some CDs and posters so that the people in his village might know more about us. I sent the package out about two weeks ago and it should be arriving shortly. When I asked where Ivan came across my music, he stated that two competing radio station in Uganda, Sanyu FM and East Africa Radio, play The Lucas Cates Band across their airwaves. How fate brought me to Ivan and Kampala Uganda, who knows? But something tells me only good will come of this. Cheers to you Ivan!

Cincinnati Jan. 2007 C-Change Event
|
Posted: Jan 19, 2007
|
Friends,
As many of you know we just got back from an incredible trip to Cincinnati. Upon arrival we were treated to two presidential suites at The Garfield Suites, located at the heart of downtown. We played an unplugged band show at The Wine Cellar in Mt. Adams and another full band show at Universal Grille. The highlight of the trip was the Ballet however. The Cincinnati Ballet fell in love with "4everytime" a few months ago and deemed it a new dance piece. We were graciously invited to the C-Change Graduation Commencement for the performance, where young business professionals celebrated their entrance into the Chamber of Commerce. I had the pleasure of playing a solo show for the party reception and then witnessed something that doesn't happen to an artist everyday. We got to see our work come to life! Thank you to dancer/choreographer Jay Goodlett for all his help and what a fine job he did. I hope that he reads this one day. Special thanks to Victoria Morgan (Director of the Ballet), Brian Frank of Proctor and Gamble, Julie and Jessica from the Chamber, Rick from Iconns, and all the new friends we've made. Thanks for making Cincinnati a definite return destination! We have already sent out a press release about our adventure to Ohio. Cheers to all of you!

Our friend, Brian Frank, of Proctor and Gamble, was a volunteer for the Midpoint Music Festival (Cincinnati). He was not only a great person, but a true fan of music. Fate has it this gentleman and I got to talking and now The Lucas Cates Band's song "4everytime" has been picked up by the Cincinnati Ballet for a new, modern dance piece. It is a long story short, but I have been asked to perform and be a guest speaker at The Cincinnati C-Change Graduation Commencement. This is a big deal and something I think the group is extremely fortunate and blessed to experience. So, special thanks to Brian for all his efforts and time spent spreading the good word for us. Cheers brother!

Hey There!

Lucas here. I just wanted to touch base with everyone and let everyone know how things are going. The band is doing excellent and making leaps and bounds in our performances. We currently are playing six songs live that are not on "Contradictory" and there are other new songs on the horizon.
I just got done playing "The Best of Madison", hosted by Madison Magazine at the Monona Terrace. 105.5 Triple M and Z104.1 had been pluging the event for two straight weeks. I am looking forward to opening for John Eddy at Club Tavern on the 23rd, and playing at the Memorial Union Terrace on the 28th. Last year playing the Union was a goal of mine. :)
We continue to progress not only musicaly, but as band mates. We are growing tighter and really having fun on stage which I think leads to great energy and a great live show. We have been getting nothing but awesome compliments from all of you which we truely appreciate. We look forward to making you
repeat yourselves. :)
At the end of the month TinderboX Productions in Minneapolis is promoting "Contradictory" to 350 college radio stations around the country, which means The Lucas Cates Band is going National! :)
Thank you again to all our friends and family. Without your support, none of this would be possible. We contiue to have nothing but great times with all of you as we only look forward to more fun in the future. I wish everyone the best and we hope to see all of you soon. Take care and God Bless.
Lucas:)

Lucas Cates - Madison Magazine Article

Madison Magazine Article - September 2005
The Next Big Thing By: Patrick Stutz
"Lucas Cates may be new to the biz, but his passion for his art and a record deal to boot are just the fuel he needs to skyrocket to the top of Madison's music scene."
It was during an open mic session at Middelton's Cheeseburger in Paradise last winter that veteran musician Robert J. Conaway first noticed the young, enthusiastic guitarist. Lucas Cates, 24, had only been performing since November, but his nonstop practicing in college had already established a Dave Matthews/John Mayer style of playing.
"It was really his songs in combination with his voice that just stuck in my head and I couldn't help but like it," says Conaway,53, who had recently formed the new Independent music label and publishing company, Popbomb Records. Cates, he recalls, was exactly the kind of artist they were looking for.
Originally established to focus solely on Conaway's own work-the Madison musical icon is a solo artist as well as a member of the folk-styled group the Moon Gypsies- Popbomb decided to finance $10,000 for Cates to record and produce his first album.
"Cates has a great knack for songwriting," Conaway says, "and that's what this label wants to be about. It's a songwriter's label."
The ten-track disc, which features Conaway as lead guitarist, and Cates' Madison West High School buddies Britton Rice,24, on drums and Matt Rodgers,25, on bass, is slated for release in January. Conaway says the CD, an acoustic-pop collection similar to musicians Jason Mraz or Jack Johnson, will center around Cates' vocals.
"We are really trying to not over produce the album," Conaway says, "but we want to make it sparkle with enough ear candy for people to really enjoy."
When production on the album is complete, Conaway says he'll be asuming the role of promoter, where he will try to get the young talent signed to a bigger label or push for national distribution of the new disc.
For now Cates will be playing solo while he finishes his debut album and is anticipating several steady gigs in the fututre, including a weekly spot at the Bar Next Door (232 E. Olin Ave.) and repeat appearances at Cheeseburger in Paradise (1601 Aspen Commons St., Middelton).
